I know we’ve been sparse on the manga updates. The problem is me, not really the staff members. Busy, busy, busy. BESIDES THAT, I’d like to share some awesome manga sales going on. I know that most of the sales I share with you guys are North American-centric, but I AM from the U.S., so… what can I say? Haha. Anyway, for anyone who likes buying from Barnes&Noble, here’s a heads up on what January has to offer! As a personal little testimony, I’ve bought a bunch of series from VIZ. I’m currently buying Strobe Edge (Io Sakisaka), Voice Over! Seiyu Academy (Maki Minami), Otomen (Aya Kanno), Oresama Teacher (Izumi Tsubaki), Sweet Rein (Sakura Tsukuba), Pokemon Adventures, and Bakuman. They have a lot of the mainstream series and a good handful of obscure titles too, so check ‘em out.

The beautiful and slightly mysterious looking cover of this magazine drew me in, and since I needed to buy a few more items to get free shipping from Yesasia, I bought it. This magazine is another collection of smutty one-shots. I wasn’t as crazy about it as I was about Renai Paradise Mini, but it was a good read.

You know, the feeling you get when the chapter you QCed gets posted on Batoto, and you’re rereading it to find ALL OF THE MISTAKES YOU THOUGHT YOU FIXED, BUT CLEARLY DIDN’T. Hahahaha. Thank goodness for online readers. That’s the daily every release day life of the hola-bean. I am a terrible QCer. Here is the less derpy version 2 of the version 2 of chapter 2 of SIH (you read the repeat correctly).

If I remember correctly this is the first chapter in what turned out to be a 3-shot that ran in Hana to Yume magazine around this time last year.

I remember clearly going through a stack of manga magazines half as tall as I am, and cutting out all the chapters I wanted to take home so I could throw the rest out. I missed the last recycling day before I left because I was in China and my host family refused to put the magazines out for me on the next one even though I bundled them up, so I ended up illegally dumping those magazines in burnable trash cans at convenience stores all over Nagoya. I’m sorry, Earth!! I know printed materials aren’t supposed to go in the burnable trash!!

Anyways, this is a cute story about forbidden love between an ordinary girl and a Buddhist priest!

[Announcement] Tsutsumi Kakeru New Series

This announcement is a little late, but I just found out that the reason Oji Koi has slowed down lately is probably because the author is currently working on another series as well! Tsutsumi Kakeru’s new series, “Shokubutsu Zukan” (“Illustrated Reference Book of Plants”) is being serialized in a newly established (?) magazine called “Hana to Yume Bunkei Shoujo” which specializes in manga adaptions of popular novels. The original Shokubutsu Zukan was written by Arikawa Hiro. 

According to the Japanese wikipedia article for the novel, the plot is extremely similar to that of the manga/drama “Kimi wa Petto.” A hardworking OL named Sayaka finds a handsome young man, Itsuki, collapsed outside her apartment building when she comes home from work one night. She brings him inside and gives him a hot meal and a bath and lets him spend the night, and when she wakes up in the morning she finds he’s repaid her kindness by making her a delicious breakfast. The two strike up a bargain whereby Itsuki will take care of the cooking and cleaning, and Sayaka will let him stay for free. 

You can read a preview of this new series here. According to the official page this magazine also includes serializations of 3 original light novels that are side stories to popular Hana to Yume series; currently they’re doing Skip Beat, Sore demo Sekai wa Utsukoshii and Akatsuki no Yona. 

When asked by a reader on twitter, Tsutsumi-sensei said that no official date has been set yet, but that she is expecting the tankoubon to be released sometime in June. I can’t wait!! I think Tsutsumi Kakeru might be my favorite mangaka of all time :D

And here it is. The final chapter of The World God Only Knows.

As some of you might know, Red Hawk Scans was formed by the former staff of Noizy Scanlations under the steady hand of Takadanama For many years, through good times and bad times, this series along with the works of Seo Kouji have been the raison d’etre of the entire group. We loved these stories and wanted to curate them, to bring them to as many people as possible with the highest quality possible. As the series grew in popularity, so too did Red Hawk, much to our own surprises. There were more than a few bumps along the road, and there were times when it seemed like we might not be able to see things through to the end, but here we are at last. From Chapter 1 to Chapter 268 it has been our privilege to work on this series.

We wouldn’t change a thing about the journey. We have done what we set out to do, and fulfilled the promise we made all those years ago to do the series justice.

Saying goodbye may be bittersweet, and although we have dreaded this moment since its announcement, there is no escape from the flow of time.

We would like to thank every single person who has ever worked on this series with us for the past six years, but there are several individuals in particular who deserve to be named.

Takadanama For starting it all in the first place, and for his tireless work behind the scenes.
ernest8192 For translating this series since November 5th, 2010(!). An amazing run.
Vaelis For typesetting this series since January 18th, 2011(!).
Naselare For not only cleaning this series from chapter 144 to 239(!), but also for improving the quality of our releases in general.
Ichibukai For his long tenure as leader and proofreader on this series.
Knight For picking up where Naselare stopped, all the way until the very end.

I honestly don’t remember debinding this but I must have because it was in one of my boxes from the move back to the US from Japan last year. I believe it’s the first chapter in what turned out to be a 1 volume short series. The premise of the story is that this guy and girl are playing some kind of computer game where they are represented by avatars (the little fairies on the cover). Typically I’m not into this kind of plot, but I think I must have debound this and shipped it home because of the lovely art.
